Why the STRAND doesn’t cost $150

Short answer is because each and every bead is made by two callused hands.

I wanted to take you along on the fabrication journey that is involved in a STRAND necklace to give you a better idea how this item is created. And also I am a nerd that loves to know how things are made so I figured some of you might be as well.

I’ve made these little beads a hundred different ways and through trial and error found a few tricks for efficiency. First, I mark out the outlines with center marks. This will serve as my stamping and drilling guide.

Then each disc is stamped out of 22 gauge sterling silver. Each bead takes two discs so for a 24 inch necklace there are 120 beads which means 240 individual discs.

I’ll fast forward a few steps as not to bore you too much! Each disc is drilled with a center hold, domed in two successions and sanded flat prepping for solder. Next, I string them all up and solder each bead together. They are then sanded on the seam and polished with porcelain beads in a big vibratory tumbler.

I string them on stainless steel coated cable for strength and finish the ends with sterling cones and a handmade twisted clasp that matches the MECATE hoops.

My STRAND has brass beads that mark my anniversary and it has been around my neck to church, in a branding trap, and while bathing my babe. I truly hoe yours does life with you too!
